The image appearing on this bench was inspired by the letter “Śa” (ศ) in the word “Śrīvijayeśvara,” written in the Pallava script in Sanskrit. The term means “King of Śrīvijaya.” It appears in the inscription of Wat Sema Mueang, dated to around the 14th Buddhist century. This inscription is an important piece of evidence demonstrating the power of the Śrīvijaya Kingdom, a significant kingdom in the southern peninsula of Thailand and the wider Southeast Asian region.
Phra Borommathat Chaiya is an important Buddhist stupa with a history dating back to the Śrīvijaya period. It is regarded as a significant historical site and one of the major tourist attractions of Surat Thani Province.
